FAQ

  1. What is MyDropBin
  2. How much does it costs?
  3. What can I store in MyDropBin?
  4. Where is my data stored?
  5. Are there file size restrictions?
  6. What happens if I stop using MyDropBin?

  1. MyDropBin is a place for you to "drop in" all of your data. It it is a new web service that offers users an easy way to store and aggregate any content, big or small, and pay only for the amount of storage they use. All content is saved in user defined Folders and tagged for easy viewing and organization. And best of all, you can access any of your content wherever you may be, as long as you have Internet connectivity.

  2. All storage fees are billed directly to you from Amazon. You only pay for the storage you use, not a set amount for a certain size and you never use all of it. You can see a list of the costs here. In addition to those costs, MyDropBin will charge a small monthly fee in order to maintain folder and tag information, as well as creation of RSS feeds for those folders and tags

  3. Your MyDropBin is there for you to store whatever you can imagine. Here are a few examples:

    • Back up your important files from you home computer.
    • Save videos and pictures
    • Back up emails
    • Web URLS
    • Images from the web

  4. All of your important data is stored in Amazons reliable storage backbone. You can be assured that your data is safe and secure. Amazon has take great strides in building a storage platform that is:

    • Reliable
    • Scalable
    • Fast
    • Secure

  5. Currently MyDropBin restricts file uploads to be under 100MB. We will constantly be evaluating this limit and adjusting as conditions permit. The connection when uploading files is between your computer and Amazon, so the speed at which files upload is dependent on the speed of your connection. Amazon allows you storage space to grow dynamically as you need it. They do have a 5GB file size limit, but for our application we would never see that hinder us.

  6. That's the great thing about MyDropBin, your data is yours. Take it with you whenever you want. If you wanted to stop using MyDropBin, the only thing you would lose is the metadata (folders and tags) you created. Otherwise everything else is yours. That is the one nice thing when compared to other storage/aggregation sites. If you have a lot of bookmarks saved in delicious and decided to cancel your account, there go your bookmarks. but with MyDropBin they are your to keep, even if you decided to stop using the service.
